Philo Agora’s talk next Tuesday August 7
Chris Smith: Helping Yourself to a Body

NOTE ! PhiloAgora has lost its café! Our meeting will now be at the
Gladstone Hotel , Dulwich Hill
. Just down the road from the old café,,,At
the corner of Marrickville road and New Canterbury Road

We are now philosophy in the Pub !!! . Talk is at 7.30 pm. Finish at 9
pm.. Entrance off Canterbury road , to a room next to the café ,,
inexpensive meals available for those who come earlier

This talk serves as a self-help guide to the body: your body. Understanding
the body is perhaps a first step toward understanding who we are and how we
engage with the world around us. Much contemporary philosophy asks that we
think afresh about the body as a way to live differently in the world. As
an architectural theorist I'm interested in the way in which our bodies and
worlds come together and drift apart: the relation between our self and our
spaces.

Dr Chris L. Smith is an Associate Professor in Architectural Design and
Techné in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Sydney.. He has
published on the political philosophy of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari
(also the subject of his doctoral thesis); technologies of the body; and the
influence of ‘the eclipse of Darwinism’ phase on contemporary architectural
theory.
