Dear SydPhilers

As some of you have noticed, some users are presently unable to get to the
list information page at the addresses below. Apologies for the
inconvenience, our helpful IT folk are working on the problem.

Fortunately it is still possible to interact with the software that runs
SydPhil by email. (Those of you with long memories and a lot of miles on
the clock may recall that this is how all mailing lists were controlled,
back in the days before the information superhighway.)

Here are some basic tips, to get you started.

HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM SYDPHIL

Send an email to sydphil-leave at arts.usyd.edu.au, from the email address
that you subscribed in the first place -- i.e., the one that currently gets
your messages from SydPhil. After a few minutes, you'll get a reply, giving
you several options for confirming the request to unsubscribe. One option
tells you to click on a link in the email, but if you can't get to the
information page in the first place (and if you could do that, why would
you be reading this?), that link won't work. Never fear, the email tells
you how to confirm the request by email -- in most cases, you just need to
hit "Reply". A few minutes later, you should get an email confirming that
you have been unsubscribed.

HOW TO SUBSCRIBE TO SYDPHIL

Same as for unsubscribing, except you send your email to
sydphil-join at arts.usyd.edu.au.

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR OPTIONS IN ANY OTHER WAY

Send an email to sydphil-leave at arts.usyd.edu.au with the subject line
"help" (without the quotation marks). After a few minutes, you'll get an
email back describing all the email commands.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER

Please *don't* send these requests, or any other admin requests, to the
address sydphil at arts.usyd.edu.au -- mail sent there gets distributed to the
entire list.

Thanks for your patience -- normal service will be resumed as soon as
possible.

The SydPhil team.
