Dear all,

This coming Monday's current project will be Caroline West:

Welfare and Whole Life Satisfaction

Many philosophers and empirical researchers suppose that happiness consists in life satisfaction: To be happy is to be satisfied with one’s life as a whole. But how much should we care about life satisfaction? Is it worth trying to measure? Does it track individual welfare in the manner commonly supposed? This depends partly on what life satisfaction is supposed to be. I distinguish six to the power of six possible conceptions of life satisfaction (this won’t take as long as you might fear!). Maybe some of these matter more than others. Collectively, we’ll aim to find out.

Philosophy common room, 1.00-2.30.

Best
