If you are interested in exploring "water consumed by each device" whichis ordinal, ordered probit model shall work for you.

What is your response variable and what are the categories within your response variable? In short, ordered probit modeling should be applied 
if there exists ordering within your dependent variable. e.g. "How many times you rode transit in past week?" 
with following options: once/week, twice/week, thrice/week, 
four or more/week". Hope it answers your question...

"Which devices to buy" or "how many to buy"?If its the later one, then there exists intrinsic ordering pattern within your response variable, 
and modeling such a response variable via unordered framework is likely to result in loss of important information. Ordered probit/logit in some cases may not give best fit for all ordered response variables. However, on a general note, ordered (probit and/or logit) model would be an intuitive methodological alternative in your case.
