[Limdep Nlogit List] Trouble with Excel 2007

Bonsoir,

The kind of problems you are encountering occurred to me more than once in a while. I'm now taking more steps, all simple:

1) make sure decimal in EXCEL are "dot", not "comma", or the code for
   decimal used in LIMDEP;
2) for added security, cell status are "standard";
3) I've, since a day or two, added another step in the copy-paste procedure:
   a) I'm copy-pasting WITHIN the EXCEL file containing the original data
      sheet, this same data SHEET to another SHEET with the Paste special
     (value only);
   b) And then, I'm copy-pasting the sheet with the value codes only
      to a new EXCEL file--always using Paste special (value only), which is
      read in LIMDEP.

Hope this is useful.

Thanks. I figured that might be it - but looked for a "copy special"
just in case. Actually, I started looking for this some more before
getting your second response because I still am having problems. While
LimDep can read my file (and all variable names) the data appears
strange. Can you verify if what I stated below is correct? are these
the steps you took? Several of the variables read as if there is no
data included. In other cases, Lim Dep can only read between 1-99 of
the 1290 observations I have.

Thanks.  -Jill

The langage is off because I'm using EXCEL in its version in French.

François:

Thanks! I think you may have saved a lot of people some time and
headache. Your suggestion below does work. The language is a little
off though. You need to copy the spreadsheet then "Paste special"
(Values only) and then save as the 2003 format. You can then read
this
in LimDep as usual.

thanks!!!!

I'm saving my EXCEL 2007 sheet with the LIMPDEP data in another EXCEL
2007 file, using "copy with values only" in the special copy menu. Up
to
now, it always worked

I am having a significant amount of trouble reading files that have
been created in Excel 2007. Saving as 2003 version does not seem to
work - yet I can read the files I created in the 2003 version prior to
switching to Excel 2007. The other option is to save as a csv file -
but it is my understanding that the csv read requires that you enter
in
the variables names by hand - this is not useful as the data I am
reading changes often (names of variables and order in which they are
included). I have tried the names=n and labels=1 commands but cannot
seem to be able to read in the variable names from the csv version.

Thanks.
