[Limdep Nlogit List] manually recognizing missing data

Is there some create command which will allow you to create a 
variable which has (say) a 1 where another variable has missing data 
and zero otherwise? I've tried

create;if (myvar=-999) xrej=1$

but this seems to put a missing data code in positions where myvar 
has missing data!
