WHEN: Thurs 24 Aug, 6pm - 7pm WHERE: Lecture Theatre 250 (ALT 1), Wilkinson Building, 148 City Rd, University of Sydney This is a FREE event, however please register as places are limited REGISTER During this talk, Webb will provide commentary on the history of modern lighting, including the origins of the incandescent lamp in New York in the late 1800?s. A number of lighting works will be illustrated and explained, including three major Australian lighting projects: * The Great Hall, University of Sydney * The Sydney Olympic Games * Anzac Parade and Lake Edge, Canberra Adjunct Professor Barry Webb AM has university qualifications in Engineering, Science and Architecture. He started his own practice in lighting and associated technologies in 1973. The lighting work of his practice included the World Exhibition in Brisbane and the luminous decorations celebrating the Bicentennial in Sydney in 1988. National projects of the firm included the National centre for Science and Technology Centre, Canberra (Lawrence Nield, Architect), the Travelling Exhibitions wing of The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra (Andrew Andersons, Architect), the National Institute for Dramatic Art, Sydney (Ken Maher, Architect), and the National Headquarters of IBM, Sydney (Brian Mazlin, Architect). More recent works included the lake edge lighting and Anzac Parade illumination for the National Capital Authority in Canberra (Alec Tzannes and Richard johnson, Architects). In 1990 Barry Webb was awarded a patent "How to make stainless steel sparkle" which has now elapsed. In 1997 Barry was invited to present a new course in lighting for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology which he taught to an increasing number of students, until his retirement in 2004.
