Dear colleagues,
This is a gentle reminder that abstract submission is currently open for our EGU 2026 session, “Cratons through time: Geodynamics, Geochemistry and the Evolution of a Habitable Planet”.
We warmly invite contributions addressing all aspects of craton formation, modification, and their broader implications for Earth’s long-term habitability.
Cratons hold the record of the oldest crust. Their formation and evolution into a stable continent set the conditions for early life to thrive on this planet. Emergence of Archean cratons above the sea level formed shallow marine environments, which potentially harbored early life, and exposed silicate-rich rocks to surface weathering. It significantly modulated atmospheric CO₂ levels and helped regulate climate, a fundamental process to sustain long-term habitability of our planet.

Confirmed invited speaker: Kathleen Alexandra Smart and she will be presenting on non-traditional stable
isotope study on cratonic peridotites.
Please feel free to share this announcement within your networks. We would be delighted to see your contributions and to engage in exciting discussions at EGU 2026.
Looking forward to your contribution.
