Dear all,

We are pleased to announce a new initiative towards the creation of a new Diamond Open-Access Journal (DOAJ) called: Geodynamica: Earth & Planets, which we aim to launch in Autumn 2024. This new journal aims at promoting academic discourse and disseminating research results pertaining to the quantitative study of Earth and (exo-)planetary internal structure, dynamics, and evolution from observational to modelling perspectives.

We are six scientists - working in the fields of Earth crustal and lithospheric dynamics, Earth’s and planetary mantle and core geophysics, and (exo-)planetary mineral physics - who have happily committed to pushing the creation of a new community-led DOAJ journal on geodynamics in all its forms.

Diamond Open Access journals are community-led and strive to publishing peer-reviewed articles at no cost to the authors: there are no article processing fees and articles are free to read for all. Over the past few years, different fields of Earth Sciences have witnessed the inception of several diamond open-access journals that aim to remove the paywall barriers and offer a platform for TRUE open science, like Volcanica<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/1zwnC71R2NTz4v359cWk5Af?domain=mailinblack.univ-lyon1.fr>, Tektonika<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/I8pWC81V0PTXDlnVxC2uXHg?domain=mailinblack.univ-lyon1.fr>, Seismica<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/Aj-iC91WPRTzLvoyPcOfiAp?domain=mailinblack.univ-lyon1.fr>, Sedimentologika<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/DWULC0YKPvikqK6OlHO2USG?domain=mailinblack.univ-lyon1.fr> and Geomorphica<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/XvgMCgZ0N1iqOrVXnH7_zOK?domain=mailinblack.univ-lyon1.fr>.
Building on these previous efforts and based on discussions held in previous geodynamic
conferences, it is time for a DOAJ in the field of Earth's and (exo-)Planets dynamics. Such an alternative to the classic profit-based scientific journals does not exist yet.

The six of us volunteer to act as a core committee, which will coordinate the efforts of three different teams:

  *
the editorial team, who will be in charge of drafting and refining the ethos of the journal, its scope, the various guidelines for article submission, review, and publication, and the smooth operation of the editorial process once the journal is launched,
  *
the technical team, in charge of the creation of our online submission platform and the production of accepted articles. This team will be supported by University of California Press, which is happy to host and support the Geodynamica initiative.
  *
the media team, in charge of the creation of the visual identity of the journal and the promotion of Geodynamica: Earth & Planets within the scientific community and beyond.

We now need your help and support to move forward! If you are excited or curious about this initiative, whether you simply want to show your support for this new DOAJ, or you want to actively participate and be involved in the creation and the operation of Geodynamica: Earth & Planets, you can:
