Session Description:

The Andes in South America stands as the second highest mountain range on our planet, and it has been shaped by tectonic forces for millions of years. This natural tectonic laboratory potentially records the links between deep Earth and surface processes that are multi-temporal and multi-spatial, including subduction, collision, volcanism and earthquakes, weathering, erosion and sedimentation, as well as their impacts on georesources and geohazards. In this light, the Andes presents an archetype of subduction-related orogenesis formed by deep and shallow tectonic processes interacting in a multidisciplinary fashion. We warmly invite contributions from researchers in structural geology, geo- and thermochronology, geophysics, geodynamics, geochemistry, petrology, and sedimentology who are interested in exploring the tectonic anatomy of the Andes from the surface to the deep mantle. These new multidisciplinary efforts will expand further our understanding of the dynamics and evolution of the Andes.
