From Susanne.Buiter at NGU.NO Tue Feb 7 04:44:17 2017 From: Susanne.Buiter at NGU.NO (Buiter Susanne) Date: Mon, 6 Feb 2017 17:44:17 +0000 Subject: [Geodynamics] 15th International Workshop on Modelling of Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics Message-ID: <6111C0285F8AE94DBA3D003AE01965EAEA034B49@SRV-V-MBX1.NGU.NO> Dear colleagues, We are happy to announce that the 15th International Workshop on Modelling of Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics will take place in the Netherlands from 27 to 31 August 2017. Please reserve the dates and follow http://nethermod.sites.uu.nl/ for updates! The workshop brings together early career scientists and specialists from geodynamics, applied mathematics, and material science to exchange and discuss advances in the methodological aspects of numerical implementations as well as latest developments and good practices in numerical modelling applications. We will centre on 15 keynote lectures with ample time for in-depth discussions with speakers and plenary discussions, and for poster sessions with contributions from all participants. We envisage the following sessions: - Tectonic processes of the crust-lithosphere system - The coupling between plates and underlying mantle - Bridging spatial and temporal scales: from mantle flow to faults - Evolution of the early Earth and planets - Numerical advances All participants stay at the same hotel: Postillion Hotel Amersfoort Veluwemeer. http://www.postillionhotels.com/en-gb Links: http://nethermod.sites.uu.nl/ and e-mail nethermod2017 at gmail.com to receive future workshop news. More information on registration and abstract deadline will follow soon, but for now, please reserve the dates! Please feel free to apply or forward this email to any person who might be interested. We are searching for a motivated researcher with interests in computational geodynamics. The official advertisement is copied below and can be found here: http://ukjobs.uky.edu/postings/135230 Review of candidates will begin March 15th. For any questions, please contact me at k.ofarrell at uky.edu. With apologies for any cross-posting. Sincerely, Keely O?Farrell Assistant Professor Dept. of Earth & Environmental Sciences 108B Slone Research Building University of Kentucky k.ofarrell at uky.edu 859-323-4876 Post-Doctoral Scholar in Computational Geodynamics University of Kentucky Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Kentucky is accepting applications for a post-doctoral scholar in computational geodynamic modelling to begin no later than August 2017. The post-doc will work with the Pl to develop and use computational mantle convection models to explore the dynamics of the Earth's interior. The research program includes projects working on constraining large scale structures in the Earth's deep interior, such as the dynamical effect of the large low shear velocity provinces, and examining the effect of these features on the dynamics of a hotter early Earth. The post-doc will work on one or more of these research directions. The post-doc will also have the opportunity to develop their own parallel research track, ideally but not necessarily related to one of the research themes described. Applicants should apply online at: http://ukjobs.uky.edu/postings/135230. Applications must include a current CV and a research statement (upload as Specific Request 1). Please also provide the names and contact information for three references when prompted in the application. This information may be used to solicit recommendation letters from your references within the employment system. Review of applications will begin on March 15, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled. For more information about this position, email Dr. Keely O'Farrell (k.ofarrell at uky.edu).
