Dear colleagues,
I'm offering two fully funded PhD scholarships to work on exoplanet atmospheres at the University of Newcastle. Students with an interest in observations and/or modelling are encouraged to apply.
One scholarship is open to both domestic and international students and provides a stipend for 4 years. The second is open to domestic students (Australian and New Zealand citizens, and Australian permanent residents) and provides a stipend for 3.5 years. The stipend is $38,938 per annum (2026 rate, indexed), and both positions include funding for computing, conference travel, and collaborative visits. The start date is flexible, from early 2027 onwards.
Applicants should have a background in physics, astronomy, applied mathematics, or a related field.
Applications close at 5pm on 9 November 2026. Full details and application instructions can be found here<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/0Q4kCWLVXkUxw8VvAS6fkZso3OOh?domain=newcastle.edu.au>.
I am happy to answer questions from prospective applicants at tom.evans-soma at newcastle.edu.au.
Best regards,
