Rationale
ULTIMATE at the Subaru Telescope is an innovative next-generation wide-field adaptive optics facility optimized for near-infrared observations. Combining a wide field of view with high sensitivity and exceptional spatial resolution, ULTIMATE will deliver a uniquely sharp view of the Universe and enable transformative science across a broad range of areas, from the earliest galaxies and cosmic structure formation to stellar populations, the interstellar medium, and the Milky Way.
With ULTIMATE approaching first light, this is an exciting opportunity to bring together the Australian, Japanese, and international astronomy communities to explore the scientific opportunities that will be enabled by the facility and to foster new collaborations.
We cordially invite community members, including students and early-career researchers to join us at Macquarie University from 9–11 November 2026 for discussions on ULTIMATE science, survey strategies, synergies with current and future facilities, and opportunities for community involvement. The workshop will feature invited talks, contributed presentations, and ample time for discussion and networking.
The workshop is supported by the Macquarie University AstroSpaceTech Research Centre.
