[ASA] Coding with AI: building a project from scratch - Thu 16th July 2-3pm

Dear ASA members,

Based on the success of the last AI coding workshop, I’ll be running a second one next Thursday, 16th July, from 2-3 pm, located in AMDC801 (Swinburne) and on Zoom (link below).

This time around, we’ll discuss how to build a project from scratch:

  *   we’ll first work through some initial brainstorming, constraints, and desired outcomes with the AI;
  *   we’ll then move on to iterating on an implementation plan;
  *   and finally, we’ll have it execute the plan and test the initial implementation.

This workshop is aimed at junior people looking at the job market, seeing AI plastered in every second job ad, and wondering how they are going to build up that experience. And the more seasoned researcher, who has ideas but not enough time to relearn how to do everything they once knew.

PS: I had a few people ask about more advanced topics. The workshop after this will focus on using orchestrator/worker workflows; i.e. having one LLM delegate work to a totally different LLM (beyond subagents). This is good not just for conserving tokens and context, but can offer a different point of view when working through difficult/complex problems.
