Dear colleagues,
The ATNF will run an “ATNF Futures 2030" workshop in February 2026:

This workshop invites the Australian community to engage in a science and technology vision for the post-2030 era that explores transformational advances with existing or upgraded facilities and new demonstrators in the SKA era. We are operating in a cost-constrained environment, and our facilities require regular upgrades to ensure they remain cutting-edge. It is therefore important to understand emerging technologies and identifyfuture science opportunities so we can apply our resources where they will have the most impact. We want your help.
This workshop seeks input for a vision for the current ASKAP site in Western Australia, where ATNF's ASKAP telescope would require a major upgrade for continued operations past 2030. We want you to help shape the future of our National Facility by sharing what science and technology excites you for the post-2030 era.
The outputs of this community consultation will be used alongside internal consultations to define a key part of ATNF’s 10-year science and technology strategy, and prepare ATNF to ensure we meet the science and technology needs of the astronomical community into the future.
We are seeking from the community, input for a vision on any (or all) of science, technologies and computing within a set of general concepts for the current ASKAP site in Western Australia. In January 2026, we will provide to the community a short document outlining the broad technology and instrumentation concepts for consideration, and invite presentations within these bounds. Concepts will include dish-based and aperture array instruments, and ASKAP upgrade paths.
Warm regards,
Cathryn
