Dear ASA Members,

Mark McAuley will be finishing this month with Astronomy Australia Limited, after 21 years of service to the Australian astronomy community. After 3 years with CSIRO-ATNF, Mark then led AAL as its inaugural CEO for 17 years, and has worked in an advisory role to the new CEO over this past year.

Mark's contributions to Australian astronomy are significant. He was instrumental in establishing ADACS and the ESO strategic partnership, represented Australian astronomy on a number of international projects including the GMT, and secured many millions of dollars for astronomy more than the regular NCRIS grant for which he also had responsibility.

His diligence, professionalism and tenacity have built AAL from a small company to managing a broad array of astronomy-related infrastructure and programs, all while building the trust of the community, and broad and enduring partnerships.

In the current environment, we are faced with more challenges in the research infrastructure landscape, and Mark has built a resilient and respected organisation to continue to support the Australian community.

We wish Mark the best for his future. He will continue his contributions to the field of medical research, and will therefore continue to serve the Australian community through a new avenue.

Warm regards,
Cathryn
