This is triggered by the current NRI consultation process<https://consultations.education.gov.au/nri>. If you haven’t yet had a chance to engage with this consultation, this webinar may be a good opportunity to gain an overview of the NCRIS program and the consultation process.

I note that Astronomy Australia Limited (AAL), the National Committee for Astronomy (NCA), and the ASA are already working collaboratively on providing feedback to this process. If you have any additional inputs or thoughts on the NRI consultation, feel free to send them to me via email.

National Research Infrastructure (NRI) Roundtable

Dear Richard,

Australia’s national research infrastructure (NRI) underpins world-class science, industry innovation, and sovereign capability. Following recent conversations across STA — including at STA’s Leadership Dialogue and monthly members’ meets— and the current Federal Government’s consultation on the 2026 NRI Roadmap Issues Paper<https://www.education.gov.au/download/19738/2026-nri-roadmap-issues-paper/42712/document/pdf>, we felt it was timely to bring members together for a focused discussion so you are informed and empowered to have your say. Note: the Government’s call for submissions closes 1 December 2025.

Join us for an accessible webinar, presented by STA staff and NCRIS facilities, that will cover:

•    what NRI is and how it fits together
•    what the NCRIS grant program supports (and how NRI extends beyond NCRIS)
•    why these national capabilities matter
•    how the current consultation could shape the next decade of Australia’s research system
•    the broader policy context in which NRI conversations are taking place

We’ll also outline key themes from the issues paper and provide practical considerations for preparing a strong, evidence-based submission.

Discussion in this session will help inform STA’s own submission to the NRI Roadmap consultation.

This session is ideal for researchers, research managers, infrastructure leaders and policy teams wanting to better understand NRI and contribute to the consultation. Please feel free to share widely through your networks.
