Dear astronomy community,

The Academy of Science is calling for nominations for all committees - a new process starting this year.

We are looking for 2 new members of the National Committee for Astronomy, and encourage nominations. It is an exciting time for astronomy, with the decadal plan recently launched, and the NCA will play a key role in formulating the implementation plan.
The current NCA membership can be found here: https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/plePCgZ0N1iGXy8ogHNfzt4zXdn?domain=science.org.au

If you have any questions about being an NCA member please feel free to email me.

cheers,
Virginia

Subject: Call for applications: National Committee for Science ordinary membership

Dear NC members

The Academy is calling for ordinary members for all NCs for the 2026-2028 term. Please see below. Kindly forward to your networks and colleagues that may be relevant and interested in this role.
All enquires may be directed to nc at science.org.au. Applications close Tuesday 30 September.

The Australian Academy of Science is seeking applications for ordinary membership of its 19 National Committees for Science<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/wV5wCk81N9t5VBgKLHQirtGCdmL?domain=science.org.au> from the Australian scientific community for a three-year term, 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028.

The National Committees are standing committees of the Academy’s Council and play an important role in fostering science in Australia. They connect the Academy with the Australian scientific community, institutions and professional societies, while also strengthening international linkages through the International Science Council (ISC) and other international scientific bodies.

This voluntary role offers the opportunity to shape the future of the discipline, contribute to policy-relevant science and engage in science diplomacy. Members gain leadership and governance experience, build visibility within the Academy and the broader science system and help advance national science priorities.

Applications are open to active scientists, researchers and professionals from across the Australian scientific community. Membership should represent a broad range of institutions, disciplines and career stages. The Academy values diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all interested individuals.

Each Committee generally consists of up to nine ordinary members appointed by the Academy’s Council, plus ex-officio members and observers as required. The current list of all National Committees is here<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/wV5wCk81N9t5VBgKLHQirtGCdmL?domain=science.org.au>.

All applications will be assessed by a panel, with recommendations presented to the Academy’s Council for approval.

Applications may be made through the Academy's portal here<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/ckQwClx1NjiXJELV9TqsRtz989O?domain=science.grantplatform.com> before 5:00 pm AEST Tuesday 30 September 2025. Any questions about the role of National Committee members or the application process should be directed to nc at science.org.au<mailto:nc at science.org.au>.
