Dear ASA,

The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (Mount Stromlo) at the Australian National University (ANU) is welcoming applications for 4 postdoctoral fellowship positions.

Postdoctoral fellowship in star-forming galaxies at Cosmic Noon
One postdoctoral fellow will undertake research into what shapes z=1-3 galaxies, either through detailed studies of the kinematics of different gas phases or by analysing resolved models of their stellar, dust, and gas emission. The researcher will work within the research group of Dr Melanie Kaasinen<mailto:melanie.kaasinen at eso.org>, and will have the opportunity to be part of 2 major international survey teams studying star-forming galaxies at Cosmic Noon — PASSAGES and CONDOR. Candidates with experience in analysing ALMA and/or JWST data, modelling gas kinematics and/or modelling the resolved spectral energy distributions of galaxies are particularly encouraged to apply. Apply using job number 557302<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/5LR6CJyBrGfQ0xVW6FVfBIyErhg?domain=jobs.anu.edu.au>.

Postdoctoral fellowship in cosmology
One postdoctoral fellow will undertake work in observational cosmology within the group of Professor Matthew Colless<mailto:matthew.colless at anu.edu.au>, and in collaboration with Professor Ned Taylor. The postdoctoral fellow will use 4MOST Hemisphere Survey observations to measure galaxy distances and velocities, map the largest and most massive local structures, measure the bulk motions in the Universe, and test the predicted approach to homogeneity and the Cosmological Principle. Apply using job number 557943<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/2gNQCK1DvKTr3L6yXsvhNI5Xx5k?domain=jobs.anu.edu.au>.

Postdoctoral fellowship in simulations of stellar and galactic astrophysics
One postdoctoral fellow will undertake research in Professor Christoph Federrath’s<mailto:christoph.federrath at anu.edu.au> research group on topics related to stellar and/or galactic/extragalactic astrophysics, with a particular focus on interstellar medium physics, involving turbulence, magnetic fields, radiation, and star formation / stellar feedback physics. A key element of the work will be to develop, design, run and analyse high-resolution 3D magneto-hydrodynamical simulations. Apply using job number 557967<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/3rJcCL7EwMfYEL7DGTPimIyYj7k?domain=jobs.anu.edu.au>.

Postdoctoral fellowship in astrophysics of 21cm signals from reionization
One postdoctoral fellow will work in the group of Professor Stuart Wyithe<mailto:Stuart.Wyithe at anu.edu.au> and Dr Yuxiang Qin focussing on extracting astrophysical constraints from redshifted 21cm observations of reionization. The program will include analysis of observations taken with the Murchison Widefield Array in collaboration with Professor Cath Trott and will include forward modelling of a simulation library for mock observations, as well as inference of measurements and constraints that can be placed on astrophysical aspects of galaxy formation. Apply using job number 557952<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/KpwOCMwGxOt6Ej7ywcWsrI8qf79?domain=jobs.anu.edu.au>.

To apply visit https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/RHuwCNLJyQUMvozqOTrtBIyVdYB?domain=jobs.anu.edu.au, and use the job numbers quoted above. All positions have a closing date for applications of the 27th January.

RSAA hosts a vibrant and diverse astronomical research community, with access to a broad array of facilities including optical telescopes operated by ANU at Siding Spring Observatory (AAT 4m, ANU 2.3m) and radio telescopes (ATCA, Parkes, ASKAP, MWA). ANU is a partner in the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) project and Australia is a strategic partner of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) with access to telescopes at Paranal and La Silla. RSAA has access to the National Computational Infrastructure supercomputers, as well as in-house compute clusters. RSAA develops sophisticated astronomical and space hardware in the state-of-the-art facilities at our Advanced Technology and Instrumentation Centre.

ANU values diversity and inclusion and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to those of all backgrounds and identities. RSAA is the recipient of a Silver Pleiades Award recognising outstanding, sustained commitment to best practice in relation to the aims of equity, inclusion and diversity. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and identities and from individuals who may have had a non-linear career path, career gaps or career breaks.
