Dear colleagues,
I have the pleasure to extend a small number of personal invitations
(including in-kind support; see below) to attend the ISSI-Beijing
Workshop on “Space based Astrophysics in the Ultraviolet”, to be held at
the ISSI-Beijing premises from *14 to 18 April 2025*.
ISSI-Beijing offers an international platform for research and
discussions of topics across the remit of the space sciences in a
stimulating, politically neutral environment. All of our programme
activities must, by definition, be multilateral (with participants
representing a minimum of 4 nationalities) and interdisciplinary.
“Workshops” in the ISSI-Beijing context are 5-day conferences hosting up
to 50 scientists, including early-career researchers. Participation is
by invitation only; selection of participants is done by an
international team of conveners (see the Workshop webpage for their
names). Instead of conference proceedings, all participants are invited
to participate in the drafting of one or more review articles that will
in first instance be published (following peer review) in /Space Science
Reviews/ (https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/pptACgZ0N1iYPD1MQTohAF4hg64?domain=link.springer.com 2023 Impact Factor:
9.1), for eventual bundling of the chapters into a volume of the /Space
Science Series of ISSI/.
At ISSI-Beijing we want our participants to focus on scientific
excellence; we deal with the exploitation of space-science data (as well
as with complementary models and ground-based observations, where
relevant) and with forecasting to future mission ideas, all focused on
the science. We don’t engage in spacecraft design/engineering or
technology transfer activities. (These meetings comply with Australian
restrictions on countering foreign interference.)
All non-local participants are offered hotel accommodation (with
breakfast) in the four-star Park Plaza hotel (a 5–10 min walk from the
ISSI-Beijing premises;

free of charge, from the night before the first day of the Workshop
until the last night of the Workshop. We also offer a welcome banquet
and lunches. Travel to Beijing is not covered.
At this stage, we have a small number (5-6) of open slots. In first
instance, we are looking to invite Australian colleagues to attend, with
the aim of strengthening Australia-China collaborations. Any interested
colleagues should contact us by email, to richard.de-grijs at issibj.ac.cn
-- please include a brief motivation and explain how you see your
science fit into the Workshop's overall theme. Applications will be
dealt with on a rolling basis. Early-career researchers are particularly
encouraged to apply.
On behalf of the Workshop conveners,
Richard de Grijs (Workshop Chair & Executive Director of ISSI-Beijing)
