Dear ASA members,
Thanks to everyone who has registered so far. Just a reminder that registration for the Curtin workshop will close at midnight this Friday. There are 17 places left, so register early to avoid missing out!
A couple of notes to those who have already registered:
* Regarding the 30-person limit at each workshop - none of the workshops are full yet, so if you have already registered, assume that your place is confirmed. Once each workshop is full, I will update the registration form accordingly.
* The payment form is still a work in progress. Once it is up and running I will circulate it to everyone who has registered.
Cheers
Henry

Dear ASA members,
We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for our upcoming Python workshops! Note that attendance at each location is capped at 30 participants (including both in-person and online) so register early to avoid disappointment.

More details below. Please circulate to any ECRs (defined as anyone without a permanent position - including postdocs, students, etc.) who may be interested!
The ASA ECR Chapter Steering Committee has teamed up with Astronomy Data and Compute Services to run a series of hybrid-format Python workshops for ECRs* in September 2023!
The 5-day workshop will be held during different weeks in in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne with both in-person and online participation options. The topics covered will include intermediate and advanced-level python topics such as
* General python tips and tricks
* Profiling & optimisation, parallelisation
* Project planning, design and structure
* Version control using Git
* Debugging and unit testing
* Collaborative software development
There will also be a group software development project that participants will work on throughout the week, applying the skills and concepts learned.
When and where: The locations and dates for each workshop are as follows (note that the same content will be covered at each workshop):
* Perth (Curtin University) - 4-8 September
* Sydney (Macquarie University) - 11-15 September
* Melbourne (University of Melbourne) - 25-28 September (NOTE: 4-day workshop due to public holiday on the Friday)
The workshop will run from approximately 9-5 (local time) each day. Note that attendance at each location is capped at 30 participants (including both in-person and online) so register early to avoid disappointment.
In-person and online participation: both modes of attendance will be available. Online attendees will participate via a Webex call with break-out rooms for group work. Note that you can attend in-person on some days and online in others if that suits your schedule best.
Registration fees:
* Registration for in-person participants costs $100, and will cover light snacks and drinks each day.
* Registration for online participants is free.
Registration payments will be collected at a later date via a separate form which will be sent to participants who have signed using this form.
Travel support: Unfortunately we cannot provide any travel support to participants, so we encourage in-person participants to attend the workshop nearest to them.
Childcare: Thanks to generous support by ASTRO 3D and OzGrav we will be able to cover childcare costs.
Registration deadlines: The deadlines for registration are as follows:
* Perth workshop: midnight Friday September 1
* Sydney workshop: midnight Friday September 8
* Melbourne workshop: midnight Friday September 22
