[ASA] Save the date - 2023 ASA ECR Python Workshops

Dear ASA members,

The ASA ECR Chapter Steering Committee has teamed up with Astronomy Data and Compute Services to run a series of hybrid-format intermediate-level Python workshops for ECRs (including students and postdocs) in September 2023! Registration will open shortly - stay tuned for a forthcoming email. In the mean time, please save the following dates (note that the same content will be delivered at each workshop):


  *   Perth workshop (Curtin University) - 4-8 September (confirmed)
  *   Sydney workshop (Macquarie University) - 11-16 September (tentative)
  *   Melbourne workshop (University of Melbourne) - 25-29 September (tentative)

The workshops will run from approximately 9-5 (local time) each day and both in-person and online attendance will be available.

The topics covered will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  *   General python tips and tricks
  *   Profiling & optimisation, parallelisation
  *   Project planning, design and structure
  *   Version control using Git
  *   Debugging and unit testing
  *   Collaborative software development
  *   There will also be a group software development project that participants will work on throughout the week, applying the skills and concepts learned.

Registration fees: Registration for in-person participants costs $100, and will cover light snacks and drinks each day. Registration for online participants is free.

Travel support: Unfortunately we cannot provide any travel support to participants, so we encourage in-person participants to attend the workshop nearest to them.

Childcare: Thanks to generous sponsorship by ASTRO 3D and OzGrav we will be able to cover childcare costs.
