Dear all,
A reminder that the Astronomers for Planet Earth symposium is taking place this week. I see we have many registrants from Australia, which is great. You can still register if you haven't already. All talks are pre-recorded and should be available for viewing before tomorrow morning Australia time. The best live sessions to attend from an Australian time-zone perspective are the topic discussions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (each at 4--6 pm AWST / 7--9 pm AEDT).
We presently have >500 registrants, making this one of the biggest astronomy conferences of the year in the world (possibly cracks the top 5), which speaks volumes to how fully virtual meetings maximise accessibility, and how astronomy sustainability is a topic of critical importance.
Please see further below details, courtesy of Sarah Wagner (SOC/VOC chair).
Cheers,
- Adam (on behalf of the A4E Symposium VOC and the A4E Australia/Oceania Regional Working Group)

Subject: Astronomy sustainability symposium 28/11--02/12
Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the Australian branch of Astronomers for Planet Earth (A4E), please see below an announcement regarding an online symposium/conference being organised by A4E on the future of sustainable astronomy, running the week 28/11—02/12. Further information can be found on the event website<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/S7d6Cnx1jniGDz46XfEFJE-?domain=indico.icc.ub.edu>. Please note that information surrounding invited talks etc is still being added to the website. But registration and abstract submission is open; to everyone at all levels.
If people have questions, I am happy to be the first point of contact.
Best wishes,

Your Symposium Guide
Astronomers for Planet Earth<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/YQRCCoV1kpfXYMAKDHWkHu9?domain=astronomersforplanet.earth> (A4E) is an international grass-roots movement of astronomy scientists, educators, students, and amateurs working to address the climate crisis from an astronomical perspective. This is a fully virtual symposium, with which we want to provide a perspective on sustainability from experts in the field as well as offer a platform for discussion regarding this extremely important topic. The symposium covers half days from Monday, 28 November, through Friday, 2 December, covering all time zones.
Our goal is to grow and strengthen the A4E community and define concrete actions and goals for the next year -- so we need you! All people related to astronomy and interested in sustainability are warmly invited to register for this event and take part in the process. We need everyone that is willing to step up and take action for a more sustainable future. Please register your participation and contribution before October 30, 2022.
In the symposium, we want to exchange experiences between experts in the field and all participants about:
* Learning about and analyzing the current status of sustainability in astronomy
* Taking action with A4E: how to get the ball rolling in the community and our institutions
* Discussing the future of astronomy conferences
* Teaching sustainability through/in astronomy
* Working on active Projects in A4E
