Hi all,
I'm excited to advertise that the University of Utah is advertising for *multiple* astro faculty and *multiple* astro postdocs this year!
Faculty: There's a cluster search in multi-messenger astrophysics (broadly defined). The job ad states, "We encourage applications from scientists engaged in research in any area of multi-messenger astrophysics. We are especially interested in, but not limited to, candidates with expertise in data analysis that combine information from multiple astrophysical messengers. We encourage candidates with expertise in experimental techniques in particle astrophysics or in analysis using a combination of neutrinos, high-energy particles, photons, and gravitational waves. Candidates should show promise as effective educators and mentors, and contribute positively to a diverse and inclusive environment." See the AAS Job Register link here: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/Ny8wCNLJyQUNqAEpWImrosO?domain=jobregister.aas.org<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/Ny8wCNLJyQUNqAEpWImrosO?domain=jobregister.aas.org>, and the Utah site for uploading applications here: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/9bnqCOMKzVTALJ0k8FvlYDK?domain=utah.peopleadmin.com<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/9bnqCOMKzVTALJ0k8FvlYDK?domain=utah.peopleadmin.com>.
Postdocs: There are three research postdoc positions open, as well as an interesting new research+teaching+mentoring position.
1) Collaborating with Gail Zasowski (hi!) on Milky Way and Local Group chemistry/dynamics/evolution, disk galaxy evolution, understanding the Milky Way and Local Group in a broad galactic context (https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/jzlqCP7LAXf41Oonws1vXfm?domain=jobregister.aas.org<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/jzlqCP7LAXf41Oonws1vXfm?domain=jobregister.aas.org>)
2) Collaborating with Yao-Yuan Mao on low-redshift dwarf galaxies, low surface brightness galaxies, spectroscopic and photometric astronomical surveys (e.g., SAGA Survey, Vera Rubin LSST), galaxy-halo connection models, astrophysical probes for dark matter (https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/uH3YCQnMBZf6183LQckGzu7?domain=jobregister.aas.org<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/uH3YCQnMBZf6183LQckGzu7?domain=jobregister.aas.org>)
3) Collaborating with Tanmoy Laskar on time-domain astrophysics, observations / modeling / theoretical explorations of astrophysical transients, gamma-ray bursts, tidal disruption events, electromagnetic counterparts of compact binary mergers and gravitational wave transients (will be on the job register soon, but it's also on Tanmoy's website<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/xtg7CROND2urDJRX6sqlgal?domain=scholar.harvard.edu>)
4) The fourth postdoc-level position involves working with the College of Science's new(ish) undergraduate research initiative. These 3-year "SRI Fellows" spend approximately half their time teaching research methods courses (both general and discipline-specific) and mentoring students through research projects, along with their own training/mentoring in support of these goals. The other half of the Fellows' time is dedicated to their own research programs, additional pedagogical training and experiences, and/or other professional development activities, depending on their specific career goals. The Fellows are hired across several fields, but this year there's a particular emphasis on hiring an astronomy-focused Fellow, who could collaborate with any of our astro group members<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/PMObCVARKgCln758JHkcVnV?domain=astro.utah.edu> on research/teaching/mentoring efforts. The job ad for this position isn't posted yet, but we anticipate it will be available soon, with an application deadline around mid-January. I'm happy to answer any questions I can in the meantime, or send a heads-up when the ad is posted -- just let me know if you're interested.
Cheers,
Gail
