The Representative in Chile position may be of interest to senior
astronomers or other scientists, with a mix of both scientific and
diplomatic skills. Working in the Office of the Director-General, this
position would be responsible for developing and implementing ESO's Chilean
engagement strategy, including maintaining good relations with both Chilean
governments and member state missions. This position will play a critical
role in the management of ESO's relationship with Chile, as host nation for
ESO's observatories. Maintaining an effective, mutually beneficial
relationship with Chile is crucial for both the continued success of ESO's
scientific operations and Chile's reputation as a centre for global
astronomy.
The Quality Assurance Specialist role asks for a highly qualified
'interdisciplinary' individual, with science or engineering degree
qualifications and relevant training in safety etc plus five years of
experience in the field of quality assurance for project development,
experience in safety and its disciplines, technical background in relevant
engineering and science, and then some specific skills such as 'RAM

experience in QA/PA/QM practices and standards, design, development,
testing, commissioning and operations of astronomical instruments/telescopes
with scientific and academic consortia, thorough knowledge of project
management.
Please be aware that:
* There are currently Australian Government general bans on overseas
travel by Australians during the COVID-19 emergency. Individuals may be able
to apply for exceptions, if moving off-shore 'permanently' for work-related
reasons, but that would depend on the nature of the reasons and evidence of
circumstances. Each application would be assessed by The Australian Border
Force (ABF) Commissioner, on a case-by-case basis.
* There are entry restrictions for individuals returning to
Australia, and mandatory quarantine, which may be at the traveller's own
cost
* Travellers will need to comply with visa and other entry
requirements for their destination country
* Flights to and from Australia may be difficult to book, and travel
restrictions and regulations may change at short notice
* The COVID-19 situation in overseas countries changes daily, and
there may be local or national lock-downs, quarantine, curfews and domestic
travel bans
* Consular support for Australians overseas may be limited in some
locations due to tight restrictions on local services and movements,
including for Australian embassy staff.
* Many travel insurance policies won't cover claims relating to
COVID-19. Read insurance policies carefully to know what will and won't be
covered.
