Dear ASA members,

AAL is working with the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and
Resources (DISER) to help promote a wealth of career opportunities
associated with the Square Kilometre Array and the European Southern
Observatory. To that end I would like to bring a number of currently open
job vacancies at ESO to the attention of you and your scientific/technical
colleagues. While mindful of the complexities and challenges associated with
taking up employment overseas at this time (see below), these roles can open
a pathway to rewarding careers for many years to come. By virtue of
Australia's Strategic Partnership with ESO, applications from Australian
citizens receive the same preferential status as those from citizens of ESO
member states.

A full list of current ESO vacancies can be accessed from the ESO
Recruitment Portal <https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/ryy5Cq71mwf87AyJ6cZp3Nd?domain=recruitment.eso.org> , but the following
vacancies are most likely to be of potential interest to the Australian
astronomy community:

Please be aware that:

*	There are currently Australian Government general bans on overseas
travel by Australians during the COVID-19 emergency. Individuals may be able
to apply for exceptions, if moving off-shore 'permanently' for work-related
reasons, but that would depend on the nature of the reasons and evidence of
circumstances. Each application would be assessed by The Australian Border
Force (ABF) Commissioner, on a case-by-case basis.
*	There are entry restrictions for individuals returning to Australia,
and mandatory quarantine at the traveller's own cost.
*	Travellers will need to comply with visa and other entry
requirements for their destination country.
*	Flights to and from Australia may be difficult to book, and travel
restrictions and regulations may change at short notice.
*	The COVID-19 situation in overseas countries changes daily, and
there may be local or national lock-downs, quarantine, curfews and domestic
travel bans.
*	Consular support for Australians overseas may be limited in some
locations due to tight restrictions on local services and movements,
including for Australian embassy staff.
