From Duncan.Wright at usq.edu.au Mon Nov 23 05:23:32 2020 From: Duncan.Wright at usq.edu.au (Duncan Wright) Date: Sun, 22 Nov 2020 18:23:32 +0000 Subject: [ASA] Twinkle Space Telescope Seminar this Tuesday 4pm AEDT 24th Nov Message-ID: Dear all This Tuesday 24th Nov. at 4pm AEDT the Twinkle team will be giving a 1 hour Seminar (+30min for questions) on the upcoming Twinkle Space Telescope launching in 2024. The Twinkle satellite is a 0.45m telescope with a spectrograph covering 0.5 ? 4.5 microns. The Seminar will cover the details of the Twinkle space telescope mission, the development status of the instrumentation as well as planned surveys and the opportunities for Australian astronomers to be on the science teams. The team have recently changed the access model to be part of the science team and access the data. This change has made it easier, with sufficient interest, to investigate various funding options for Australian involvement including through AAL (and traditional ARC routes). USQ has already joined, but we are very keen to gauge (and increase!) Australian interest in this facility including for the solar system bodies survey, the exoplanetary survey, or any other suitable science. Twinkle provides an excellent opportunity to give Australian astronomers guaranteed access to space-based optical and infra-red spectroscopy. If you would like to attend you can register through the following link: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/h9PRC4QOPEiWAz7vTOXdO3?domain=eventbrite.co.uk or just join the zoom call (zoom details available in the above link as well) Yours sincerely, Duncan Dr. Duncan Wright Mt Kent and MINERVA Observatory Centre for Astrophysics University of Southern Queensland [signature_1456691154] [signature_227008408] __________________________________________________________________ This email (including any attached files) is confidential and is for the intended recipient(s) only. The talks will be organised around three themes - Origin of Extreme Particles; Origin of Mass & Matter; Origin of Expansion & Structure - and held during the mornings of the five days with a brief recap session on each day. The meeting website provides a brief summary of each of the themes. The three themes are built around a proposal for an ARC centre of excellence (CoE) with the current working title "Centre for Cosmic Origins and Extremes". A discussion session on the CoE will be held on the final afternoon of the workshop (Friday 2-4pm) in order to progress the CoE concepts and teams going into 2021. We therefore welcome anyone with an interest in astroparticle physics topics and the proposed CoE to join the workshop, specific talks, and/or discussion. The workshop will be primarily held remotely via Zoom. In order to keep track of the participant numbers, we would ask that you please register at the website above. The Zoom link will be provided to registered participants. There is also an option to join the Friday afternoon CoE discussion session face to face at UNSW. We had originally planned to host the ANITA workshop and summer school at Macquarie University / AAO in Sydney in February. However, due to ongoing uncertainty and travel & meeting restrictions, the ANITA steering committee, in consultation with the local organising committee, decided to opt for an online-only workshop this year. The ANITA workshop will be held over zoom starting the week of 8 February, 2021. To avoid zoom poisoning, we will hold the workshop over multiple two-hour sessions, running Monday noon ? 2 PM AEDT and Friday noon ? 2 PM AEDT over several consecutive weeks (the exact number of sessions to be determined based on the number of talk submissions). As always, early career researchers are particularly encouraged to contribute talks. We will open up registration shortly and communicate that in a separate message, but please add the workshop to your calendars in the meantime. We will hold the ANITA school on the topic of Green Computing (software optimisation, etc.) at a later date. We hope to be able to host an in-person school if possible, but there will be an opportunity to participate online-only.
