currently advertising a postdoctoral position in the area of compact object
mergers, targeting radio afterglows of gravitational wave merger events.

** About the job **
Applications are invited for a 3-year postdoctoral fellowship researcher
position in the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing (CAS) at
Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. The successful
applicant will conduct research into the astrophysics of mergers of compact
objects (neutron stars and black holes) under the guidance of A/Prof Adam
Deller, comparing high angular resolution radio observations from Very Long
Baseline Interferometry to hydrodynamic simulations to infer properties of
the merging systems. Opportunities to supervise postgraduate students and
to conduct independent research will be available. The position is funded
by an Australian Research Council grant and the applicant will work with
both local collaborators (including in the co-located OzGrav Centre of
Excellence) and international partners.
* Full time, 3-year fixed term position at our Hawthorn campus
* Academic Level A6 AUD$87,603 + 17% superannuation

** About you **
The successful applicant will have:
* A PhD in astrophysics or a related field
* Experience in observational or theoretical radio astronomy
* Demonstrated ability to undertake research both independently and
collaboratively
* Strong record of research achievement with high-quality publications

Preferred (but non-essential) qualities include:
* Experience with Very Long Baseline Interferometry
