Dear ASA members,
Please join me in congratulating Professor Lisa Kewley from the ANU for receiving the James Craig Watson Award for 2020.
The prestigious James Craig Watson Award is conferred by the National Academy of Sciences in Washington DC, every two years for outstanding contributions to the science of astronomy. Lisa is the first southern hemisphere astronomer to be awarded this in its 133 year history.
Lisa has been recognised for her career contributions to understanding galaxy formation and evolution, and in particular her modelling of the ionization and chemical abundance components of galaxies, and how they tie together to produce a cohesive view of galactic processes.
This is an extremely impressive achievement, and excellent recognition of her ongoing significant contributions to the research field. In addition to her research contributions, she holds leadership positions within the community, and is a strong advocate for training students and women in STEM.
Many congratulations to Lisa.
Regards,
Cathryn
