ASTRO 3D merges world-leading Australian and international optical, infrared and radio telescope technologies with sophisticated theoretical simulations and ambitious new big data analysis techniques to open a new realm in astrophysics - a 3D understanding of the origins of the Universe and our place within it. Through the Centre, the next generation of scientific leaders will be trained within a cohesive, national and international framework that includes cutting edge science and data intensive infrastructure, nationwide and worldwide collaborations, leading equity and diversity programs, and large-scale public education and outreach programs. ASTRO 3D was established in July 2017, and has been funded over seven years with a $30.3M grant from the Australian Research Council (ARC), $8.4M in cash from six Australian universities and $144M of in kind resources from collaborating and partner institutions. ASTRO 3D is comprised of six collaborating universities ? the Australian National University, the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, Swinburne University of Technology, the University of Western Australia and Curtin University ? and world-class Australian and international partners: Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), National Computational Infrastructure (NCI), California Institute of Technology, USA (Caltech), University of Washington, USA (UW), University of Toronto, Canada, Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON), Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), University of Oxford, UK. The Centre goals for its international partner institutions are to work collaboratively towards the Centre science goals, including joint scientific publications, theoretical simulations and data products. ASTRO 3D will add a new node or nodes if 1. The new node(s) satisfy several of the identified needs of the Centre, 2. The new node(s) provide new opportunities that significantly benefit the Centre, and/or 3. The new node(s) provide significant new leadership or expertise of Centre science or other programs Identified needs of the Centre are: ? Expertise and/or leadership skills in the science priority areas of first galaxies, galaxy evolution, galactic archaeology, HECTOR, and hydrodynamic simulations of galaxies ? Leadership skills and time available to lead programs and committees ? Expertise, skills, and/or technology to improve the Centre?s ESO and GMT project readiness ? Ability to help the Centre reach its equity and diversity goals, including the goal of 50:50 gender diversity by 2021 ? Education and outreach personnel or resources including, but not limited to, indigenous astronomy expertise ? Leadership of and support for organisation of conferences, workshops, and/or training programs To respond to this call for expressions of interest, interested institutions should nominate a contact person and send the contact details to ASTRO 3D Director Lisa Kewley(director.astro3d at anu.edu.au) by Friday June 7, 2019. This contact person will be sent an information packet for preparing proposals to become a new node, including the proposal template, timeline, identified needs of the Centre, the Centre Partnership Plan, Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan, the Centre Strategic Plan, and relevant budget information. ASTRO 3D will arrange Q&A sessions with all potential new nodes.
