Dear ASA members,

I am pleased to announce that the new ADACS long-term astronomy support program has launched via our Pawsey node.
The call for proposals is now open. Please see the announcement from Pawsey below.

The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre, as part of ADACS, is launching a new program to better support large scale astronomy projects by embedding technical staff within research groups, to add value to existing investments and to assist in the optimisation of existing workflows, software and processes which use high-performance computing and data infrastructure.

A call for proposals from astronomy researchers across Australia is now open for projects that will benefit by having a Pawsey technical staff member embedded in their astronomy project for at least 12 months (commencing 1 July 2019).

Benefits:

  * A Pawsey Technical staff member will be offered to successful projects free of charge.
  * The Pawsey Technical staff member will work closely with the project and become an integral part of your team.
  * This opportunity is open to all astronomers Australia-wide.

Guidelines:

  * The project will need to be able to utilise a technical person at 0.5 FTE for a minimum period of 12 months.
  * All proposals will be assessed by an independent panel.
  * Successful projects will be announced in the second week of June.
  * The technical person will commence work on the project from 1 July 2019.
  * Project proposals must clearly justify the need for the technical staff, utilise Pawsey resources and demonstrate a focus in one (or more) of the following areas:
     *   High-Performance Computing
     *   Cloud computing
     *   Data analytics
     *   Large scale data storage
     *   Machine learning
     *   High-speed interconnects/communication
     *   Scientific visualisation

How to apply:

  * An application can be submitted here<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/XuE8Cq7BKYtZWPklIZDMTl?domain=pawsey.org.au>.
  * Applications will be open from 18 April 2019 and will close on 31 May 2019.
