From Eloise.Birchall at anu.edu.au Tue Jul 31 14:02:39 2018 From: Eloise.Birchall at anu.edu.au (Eloise Birchall) Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2018 04:02:39 +0000 Subject: [ASA] Final Abstract Reminder: E&F White conference on gas-solid reactions Message-ID: Dear Colleagues, This is a reminder email that the abstract submission deadline for the Elizabeth and Frederick White conference on gas-solid reactions from the atomic scale to the parsec is tomorrow, Wednesday 1 August. Details on abstract submission are at: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/9bDJCNLwM9iXjBJAtm58ot?domain=efwhiteconference2018.wordpress.com The conference will be held at the Australian National University in Canberra from 5-7 September 2018. This conference covers the role of gas mixtures in distributing chemical elements, modifying materials and transferring heat from the atomic through parsec scales. Advances in understanding gas-solid reactions form a basis for improving removal of greenhouse gases from Earth's atmosphere, enhancing models of volcanic processes, aiding ore deposit exploration, and probing planet-forming regions beyond our solar system. Travel scholarships are available for Honours or Masters students, applications for these are also due tomorrow, please see the website for more details: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/K2fCCOMxNyt4vKlJivmFHd?domain=efwhiteconference2018.wordpress.com The program includes: * Fundamental processes in gas-solid interactions * Planets and stars * Volcanoes and the Earth's Crust * CO2 sequestration * Gas-solid interactions in solar thermal and manufacturing * Early career workshop and future research planning The public lecture will be given by Professor Klaus Lackner from Arizona State University. Each studentship comes with a $7,600 scholarship and interstate/NZ students also receive airfares and a 50% accommodation subsidy. Four of our studentships are offered in partnership with the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre for computational astronomy/data intensive astronomy projects. Please encourage your undergraduate students to apply. Applications close on the 30th August. Studentships are expected to begin on the 26th of November and will consist of ten weeks work and a two week (paid) christmas break. Dates and timing can be flexible for successful students. More details, including an indicative list of projects and the application form are at: www.icrar.org/studentships Please also see the attached poster for further information. Feel free to print it out for noticeboards in your department if appropriate. Thank you! The opportunity is open to any individual based in Australia with skills relevant to the design and implementation of a major science/infrastructure project including in astronomy, science, engineering, management, mission assurance, communications, or other relevant area. The Australian SKA Fellowships Programme will facilitate Australia-based scientists, engineers and people with other relevant expertise to spend a period of 2 - 3 months at the UK-based SKA Headquarters, contributing to the delivery of the Phase 1 design work. The programme is supported by the Australian SKA Office in conjunction with the international SKA Organisation in line with their strategic priorities. Further information about the programme including how to submit an expression of interest can be found here on the ASKAO website. The call for expressions of interest will close on 9 September 2018. It would be greatly appreciated if you could forward this information to any member of your organisation that may be interested in the programme. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.
