Projects are available in astrophysics, engineering and computing with positions based at our headquarters in Marsfield, Sydney, at Kensington in Perth and at CDSCC in Tidbinbilla near Canberra. Successful scholars will work on a project under the supervision of one or more of our staff, learn about a range of astrophysics topics and radio astronomy techniques and engineering and have the opportunity to visit one of our observatories. Participation in the Vacation Scholarship Program has influenced previous scholarship holders in their choice of further study and future career options. Many have gone on to pursue a PhD in CSIRO or to build a successful research career within CSIRO, a university or industry. Scholarships pay $1536.81 per fortnight for the 10-week program. Travel assistance is available for successful applicants with a return trip to either Sydney, Perth or Canberra. CASS manages Australia's leading facilities for radio astronomy and spacecraft tracking, we're internationally renowned for our radio astronomy research and engineering expertise, and we're helping to shape the Square Kilometre Array. For more information please see our website at Astronomy and space Pre-Requisites/Eligibility: To be eligible to apply students must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or an international student who has full work rights for the 8 to 12 weeks duration (does not require visa sponsorship). Vacation scholarships are open to students who: * are currently enrolled at an Australian university; * have completed at least three years of a full-time undergraduate course (however exceptional second year students may be considered); * have a strong academic record (credit average or higher); and * Intend to go on to honours and/or postgraduate study. Applications close on Monday 6 August 2018. Applications must be made online at: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/qJdGC1WZXrijGVWPsLzKjn?domain=jobs.csiro.au Please contact me if you require further information. It will be held at the Australian National University in Canberra from 5-7 September 2018. This conference covers the role of gas mixtures in distributing chemical elements, modifying materials and transferring heat from the atomic through parsec scales. Advances in understanding gas-solid reactions form a basis for improving removal of greenhouse gases from Earth's atmosphere, enhancing models of volcanic processes, aiding ore deposit exploration, and probing planet-forming regions beyond our solar system. Abstracts are due on 1 August 2018. Abstract submission details are available on the website. Travel scholarships are available for Honours or Masters students, please see the website for more details. Attached is a poster regarding the conference. Please pass this along to colleagues/students who might be interested. The program includes: * Fundamental processes in gas-solid interactions * Planets and stars * Volcanoes and the Earth's Crust * CO2 sequestration * Gas-solid interactions in solar thermal and manufacturing * Early career workshop and future research planning The public lecture will be given by Professor Klaus Lackner from Arizona State University.
