The National Committee for Astronomy (NCA) is inviting applications from Australian astronomers who would like to become new members of the International Astronomical Union (IAU). In 2018, the IAU will be proposing a new Junior Membership category for researchers who have just completed their PhD in a branch of astronomy/astrophysics. The Junior Membership is temporary and cannot be extended for more than six years. The regular Individual Membership category remains open to scientists with a PhD or equivalent in a branch of astrophysics. Applicants for regular Individual IAU membership should generally be professional astronomers with at least three years postdoctoral experience and several publications in refereed journals. Membership applications will be assessed by the National Committee of Astronomy at their annual general meeting on December 12 prior to nomination to the IAU.
