[ASA] FW: Changes to the SKA Organisation Board [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Dear ASA Members

This email is to update you on two recent changes to the Board of Directors of the international Square Kilometre Array Organisation.

Firstly, Dr Catherine Cesarsky<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/YZ5qB0upJ4DxHO?domain=skatelescope.org>, has been elected as the new Chair of the Board, effective immediately. From 1999 to 2007, Dr Cesarsky was the Director General of the European Southern Observatory (ESO). From 2006 to 2009, Dr Cesarsky was president of the International Astronomical Union and is currently  the high level Science Advisor at CEA. Dr Cesarsky succeeds Prof Lars Börjesson, who has been interim Chair of the SKA Board since Prof Giovanni Bignami tragically passed away last May.

Secondly, following his appointment as Director of CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science (CASS), Dr Douglas Bock will transition into the role of Australia's Science Representative on the SKA Board, commencing at the next Board meeting in November. Having attended the previous two meetings in March and July as an observer, Dr Bock is well placed to provide scientific advice to the Board.

Dr Bock will take over the role from Deputy CASS Director, Dr Sarah Pearce, who has been Australia's Science Representative for the last two years. Dr Pearce has given outstanding service in the role and will continue to lead SKA-related matters within CSIRO. Dr Pearce will continue in her role as a member of Australia's SKA Convention Negotiation Team and will be Australia's science representative to the Convention Preparatory Task Force as it prepares for the establishment of the intergovernmental organisation.
