Dear Australian Astronomy colleagues,
It is with much sadness that we inform you of the passing on Monday 9 January of former UKST Astronomer-in-Charge,
Dr Ann Savage, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Ann began her career at the Royal Greenwich Observatory in 1964,
and moved to Australia in 1974 to undertake her PhD studies on QSOs under John Bolton at the Parkes Radio Telescope.
After a sojourn in Edinburgh, Ann became UKST Astronomer-in-Charge in the late 1980s, eventually retiring on ill-health
grounds in 1995.
Ann is survived by her husband Richard and sons Robert and Ross. Her funeral took place on Friday 13 January in Coonabarabran.
An appreciation of Ann's life and work will appear in the next issue of the AAO Observer.
