Applications are invited for a full professor position (Academic Level E) in the astronomy group at the University of Tasmania. The Warren Chair of Astrophysics has been established within the School of Physical Sciences to foster world-class research in astronomy and astrophysics at the University of Tasmania. We are seeking an exceptional candidate with excellent scientific leadership, an outstanding track record of publications and obtaining research funding, and a commitment to creativity and innovation in research. The Warren Chair holder will also contribute to teaching in the school's physics program and to outreach programs communicating his or her research achievements to the public. The appointee will incorporate the University's astrophysics infrastructure into his or her research program and further the commitment of the School to strengthen research productivity. The term of the Warren Chair is 10 years, subject to successful mid-term review after five years.
UTAS astronomers are internationally recognised for their research in several subfields of astrophysics. The discipline of physics is home to a vibrant research group including 5 permanent academic staff members, 12 postdoctoral and technical staff, 11 PhD students, and a wide range of collaborations with staff in closely related disciplines. The School operates a 1.3m optical telescope 65km north of Hobart, and 6 radio telescopes in five Australian states. Preference will be given to applicants that can lead a group making productive use of UTAS astronomical infrastructure.
Included Benefits:
Appointment to this role at Academic Level E will have a total remuneration package of AUD 197212 comprising base salary of AUD 168557 plus 17% superannuation.
