Second Announcement

2016 Fredrick and Elizabeth White Research Conference
Galactic Archaeology and Stellar Physics: Understanding the origins
of the Galaxy and its stellar content

21-25 November 2016 - The Shine Dome, Canberra, Australia

www.aao.gov.au/conference/gasp16*****Deadline for Abstract Submission: 15 July 2016*

Scientific Rationale:

Galactic Archaeology aims at unveiling the Milky Way’s history by
studying the fossil record preserved in stellar light. Large surveys
are targeting samples of 10^5 to 10^6 stars to measure their
chemical compositions. Together with distances, ages, 3D
velocities and orbits, the chemical information will have a revolutionary
impact on understanding galaxy formation. Stellar physics combines
the observations with theoretical interpretations on the structure
of stars. This knowledge is essential to decipher the observed
chemical patterns within the Galaxy’s stellar populations. Major new
developments in stellar physics have a direct impact on
understanding the observational data. This conference will bring
together world-leading experts on Galactic Archaeology and Stellar
physics in order to exploit the wealth of information provided by
new and on-going surveys of the Galaxy.

The conference will commemorate the 76th Birthday of Prof. Ken Freeman
