(Apologies to those who receive this more than once)

Call for participation in the MeerKAT MIGHTEE polarization working group.

Expressions of interest are invited from all members of the community who would like to participate in the polarization working group of the MeerKAT MIGHTEE survey.

The South African MeerKAT radio telescope is a precursor to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope and will be integrated into the mid-frequency component of SKA Phase 1. Construction of the MeerKAT telescope is now well underway and the ten MeerKAT key science projects are being reviewed.

The MeerKAT MIGHTEE (MeerKAT International GigaHertz Tiered Extragalactic Exploration Survey) is a deep continuum survey that targets four key sky areas (COSMOS, XMM-LSS, E-CDFS and ELAIS-S1) in full polarization. In doing so the MIGHTEE continuum survey will image 20 square degrees in L band, and some fraction of this area also at S band, to a depth of approximately 2uJy/bm in total intensity. In addition, imaging at 500-900 MHz with the upgraded GMRT will be used to provide matched resolution data (5”) to the MeerKAT L and S band images.

Expressions of interest for joining the polarization working group of the MIGHTEE survey should provide (1) a brief description of scientific interest in the survey, and (2) a description of the proposed contribution to the project on a technical level. Successful EoIs are expected to balance scientific return with invested effort. EoIs from postdoctoral and early stage career researchers are particularly encouraged.

Please send EoIs for joining the MIGHTEE polarization working group to Anna Scaife (anna.scaife at manchester.ac.uk<mailto:anna.scaife at manchester.ac.uk>) and/or Russ Taylor (russ at ast.uct.ac.za<mailto:russ at ast.uct.ac.za>) with the subject line "MIGHTEE POL WG".

Best wishes,

Russ Taylor & Anna Scaife
