Dear ASA Member,

This is a quick reminder to kindly ask if you could spare a little time to participate in this survey on astronomers’ practices of public communication/outreach. The survey is done under the auspices of the IAU Division C Commission C2 Communicating Astronomy with the Public Working Group Science Communication Research in Astronomy: littlehttp://www.iau.org/science/scientific_bodies/working_groups/261/.

This is a study intended at 'active' astronomers (i.e. currently conducting research).

If you are an active astronomer but do not carry out any communication activities with a non-specialist public (e.g. public lectures, interviews, etc.), please still use the link below to the survey to let us know. The questionnaire has been prepared to receive responses from ‘non-communicators’. Your responses will help us understand barriers researchers may face in public communication.

This study will improve our understanding of science communication in astronomy. It is the first comprehensive study to map the practices of the astronomical community worldwide. Your collaboration and full and honest answers are essential to its success.

The study is being carried out by the Lisbon University Institute and the London School of Economics and supported by the European Southern Observatory, Leiden Observatory and the International Astronomical Union.

As a small-thank you, we will donate mounted images and books from the European Southern Observatory to 10 survey participants picked at random. Please include your email at the end of the questionnaire to take part in the prize draw.

The deadline for survey completion is December 18.
