First Announcement:
Mount Stromlo Student Christmas Seminar 2015

“There’s no place like space”

The annual Mt Stromlo Student Christmas Seminars will be held this
year on December
3 and 4 at Mount Stromlo Observatory in Canberra. This two day student
conference is a fantastic opportunity for astronomy and astrophysics
research students (of all levels) to showcase their research and network
with their peers and future colleagues. Feedback from the previous years
has been overwhelmingly positive and we are looking to host another
successful event this year.

The first day of the seminars is dedicated to presentations, workshops and
tours by invited speakers while the second day is devoted to the students.
We encourage everyone to register a short talk (12 minutes) or a poster
about their research. This year’s theme is Dr Seuss inspired: “There’s no
place like space”. Based on the participants' votes there will be prizes
for: 1) the best science talk, 2) the best theme-related talk and 3) the
best overall talk.

Invited Speakers and Workshops

   -

Prof Brian Schmidt: “Astronomy as a Career: The Good, The Bad, and the
   Ugly.”
   -

Dr Vanessa Moss: “Connecting with the Public”
   -

Dr Anne Medling: “How to Boost your Academic Writing Skills and Get
   Cited”
   -

Presentation and tour of the Giant Magellan Telescope and
   instrumentation facilities

The registration deadline for the Seminars is November 20.
