The following meeting announcement is from ASA member Gregory Tsarevsky <Gregory.Tsarevsky at asc.rssi.ru> :

      Summer School on Submillimeter Astronomy

The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and
Astro Space Centre of the P. Lebedev Physical Institute (ASC LPI RAS)
organise the International School - the Eleventh Summer School of Modern Astrophysics
           dedicated to the Sub-mm Astronomy

The School takes place on 12-24 July 2015
at the MIPT Campus in the Dolgoprudny Town near Moscow.

It primarily aimed at graduate students and postdocs working in the field
of astronomy and astrophysics and will be limited to about 50 participants.
The working language is English.

Objectives:
Observations in the Far-Infrared and submillimeter wavelengths (Terahertz frequencies) are one
of the most technically demanding, thus this field of astronomy has been pushed forward only recently.
A great progress has been made by the Herschel space telescope, and extraordinary results are now being obtained by the ALMA observatory. Unfortunately Russia was outside of these developments
due to the economical reforms of 1990-s. But now it is going to enter this field with an ambitious Millimetron Project (http://millimetron.ru). The goal of the school is to encourage young scientists in submillimeter astronomy, and to train them to use Herschel, ALMA etc. data and, also, to help them contact colleagues from different countries in the friendly environment of the School.

Plan:
Duration of the School is two weeks.
During the first week an introduction to the field will be given in the form of lectures covering a wide range of topics, including the basics of star formation, the theory of various processes in the interstellar medium, the principles of observations in the sub-mm range by single dish telescopes and interferometers, the applications to cosmology, etc.
The second week will be devoted to the practical work with observational data.

Confirmed lecturers:
Thijs de Graauw (Lebedev Physical Institute)
Andrey Baryshev (Netherlands Institute for Space Research)
Paul Hartogh (Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research)
Alexander Men'shchikov (Service d'Astrophysique, CEA, Saclay)
Carina Persson (Onsala Space Observatory)
Sergey Pilipenko (Lebedev Physical Institute)
Andrey Sobolev (Ural Federal University)
Dmitry Wiebe (Institute of Astronomy RAS)
Eva Wirström (Onsala Space Observatory)
Igor Zinchenko (Institute of Applied Physics RAS, Nizhnii Novgorod State University)
Anaelle Maury (Service d'Astrophysique, CEA, Saclay)

Registration is opened from 16 March 2015 till 22 May 2015.
Corresponding Web site is: http://school2015-millimetron.ru

Venue:
The school will be held at the Dolgoprudny Campus of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The Dolgoprudny Town is located about 1 hour by public transport (metro and train)
from the Moscow City centre (the Kremlin).

MIPT has all the facilities: modern lecture halls and classrooms, etc.

All participants will be conveniently accommodated in the on-campus student housing.
For map and address see: http://mipt.ru/en/about/general/contacts/way.php

Financial support including living and traveling expenses
will be available for the SOC approved participants.

Scientific organizing committee:
A.V. Gurevich (Chair), D.A. Varshalovich, V.V. Zheleznyakov, L.M. Zeleny,
N.S. Kardashev, A.M. Cherepashchuk, V.S. Beskin, V.A. Dogiel,
V.N. Lukash, V.V. Kocharovsky, D.I. Nagirner, D.G. Yakovlev

Local organizing committee:
Prof. Vasily Beskin (Chair), Sergey Pilipenko, Tanya Morozova

=============================================

I expect your further support of the School by encouraging young Australian astronomers
of your Institutions interested in its definitely progressive topic.

On behalf of the LOC -

Gregory Tsarevsky
