Dear ASA Members,

I forward below a request from NCSRS which is of relevance to those of you working
in areas of solar system science, astrobiology, radio astronomy and related
fields.
Please take a look and consider completing the survey.

Andrew Hopkins
President, ASA

----------------------------

The National Committee for Space and Radio Science (NCSRS) are undertaking a
census of Australian researchers involved in space or radio science in
preparation for a mid-term review of their 2009 Decadal Plan for Australian
Space Science. If you are involved in space or radio science please do assist
the committee by taking part in the survey discussed below and forwarding to
your colleagues.

The NCRS is seeking your input to a detailed survey that will:

1.Perform a census of the state of Australia's space and radio research
sector, updating our knowledge of this rapidly evolving community;

2.From that census, establish a database and efficient web-based lines of
communication to assist with alerting the space and radio research community
to events and opportunities - both by members of the community and by the
NCSRS. Thus the survey asks for names and contact details so that the
communication database can be established;

3.Form the first part of the process of performing the mid-term review of the
Decadal Plan for Australian Space Science 2010-2019.

The activities covered are limited to scientific research and
development-related activities (which may be carried out by universities and
other educational institutions, research organisations, government agencies
and industry). Commercial space activities are excluded; however, scientific
research and development undertaken by industry as a prelude to commercial
activity is included.

There are two surveys - one for organisations and one for individuals. The
first is reasonably short, and should only be filled in once per organisation.
The second is detailed and seeks to capture as much information about issues
of research and personnel directions, funding and output as possible.Every
person working in Australian space and/or radio science is encouraged to
complete the survey for individuals. This is not limited to researchers
identifying as space and/or radio scientists, but includes engineers and other
professionals conducting research and development in fields related to space
and/or radio science.More information on the scope of the Census is provided
in the opening page of the survey.

*Take the survey here:
www.science.org.au/committee/space-and-radio-science/census-2015
<http://www.science.org.au/committee/space-and-radio-science/census-2015> *

The survey is confidential - names, contact details and research areas of
individuals will be recorded in the database but will NOT be stored alongside
any other information provided by those individuals. The latter will be used
for analysis of the research community as a whole, and only summarised results
will be made public.

The deadline for completion of the survey is April 24, 2015.

Yours sincerely,

Russell Boyce
