The following email is from Rodrigo Rodrigues, a mechanical and aerospace engineering student at the University of Adelaide. He is part of the organising committee for an event called SpaceUp Australia, which appears to be a relatively informal meeting aiming to create opportunities for the general public to network with professionals from the space industry.
While this may not be of immediate interest to many ASA members, you may have students or friends who may be interested. If so, please pass this information along.
Dear Astronomical Society of Australia members,
We are proud to extend you an invitation to attend SpaceUp Australia!
SpaceUp Australia is an event focused on space-related topics. It will feature talks from guest speakers whose backgrounds range from engineering and science, to medicine and law. However, it will also feature time-slots dedicated to attendee-led sessions, which will allow attendees to select discussion topics of their interest and to lead their own sessions if they wish. The idea behind this event is to promote a casual environment where issues related to the space sector can be discussed between the attendees with more ease than at a normal conference, and to create opportunities for students and the general public to network with professionals from the space industry.
SpaceUp Australia will occur on the 28th of September 2014, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, at Flinders University Victoria Square Campus, in Adelaide. Applications for registration are now open, and will remain so until the 18th of August. The admission price is 50 dollars, and it includes access to all sessions and lunch.
Apart from an interest in space, there are no requirements to participate, hence everyone is welcome to attend! To register for SpaceUp Australia, please follow the link below:
Thank you for your attention, we look forward to meeting you at the event!
