Reminder: The registration deadline for the 2nd Australian Exoplanet Workshop is 23 November 2012.
NEW! - We have added a half day Kepler Data Tutorial on the morning of Wednesday 12 December 2012. Details below. This may also be of interest to stellar and extragalactic astronomers. If you wish to attend, please register for the Exoplanet Workshop and indicate that you will attend the Kepler Data Tutorial.

KEPLER DATA TUTORIAL
9:30am - 12pm, 12 December 2012
Mt Stromlo Observatory, Canberra
Presented by Dr Jessie Christiansen, Kepler Mission Data Scientist, NASA Ames.
The Kepler spacecraft monitors 160,000+ stars with continuous, 30-min or 1-min sampling. Kepler data provide a unique combination of photometric precision, duration, contiguity and source volume. The community are encouraged to participate in Kepler's primary exoplanet science and exploit the mission's unique archive and observing resources to pursue unrelated stellar and extragalactic astrophysics.
From Oct 28, 2012 access to the Kepler data archives will be unrestricted. Images, pixels and light curves can all be downloaded.
In order for Australian researchers to capitalise on this remarkable dataset, we are hosting a Kepler data tutorial session presented by Dr Jessie Christiansen from NASA Ames.
For the participants to get the most out of the hands-on session, they should download and install PyKE and PyRAF to their laptops. Instructions can be found at:

2nd Australian Exoplanet Workshop
10-11 December 2012
Mt Stromlo Observatory, Canberra
http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/planets/home.html
This meeting aims to bring Australian researchers working on exoplanets (from both an observational and theoretical perspective) together. The workshop will cover surveys, characterisation and theoretical modelling of planet formation and evolution - indeed anything related to the science of planets orbiting other stars.
Participants are encouraged to give a short presentation, either on a specific research issue, or to brief the workshop on the research capabilities in exoplanetary science in their departments at present. There will also be an opportunity to discuss important questions, and strategies for increasing linkages and collaborations as a means to expanding this critical research area in the future.
There is no registration fee to attend the Workshop. However, please indicate your attendance via the registration page (http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/planets/registration.html), which includes the option to submit a title and abstract of the talk.
Registration deadline is 23 November 2012.
