Postgraduate Scholarship on Age-related Macular Degeneration

To support a PhD student for 2008; the project will examine the
incidence of AMD in the Blue Mountains Eye Study and involves measuring
visual acuity, performing standardised refraction, ocular biometric
measurements, and taking fundus photographs on an older population based
in the Blue Mountains; $29,753 pa; up to 1 year with a possible
extension of a further 1 year; applicants should hold an MBBS and must
be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

John York Research Scholarship 

To support a PhD student; the broad aim of the project is to understand
mechanisms of inflammation and joint damage in inflammatory arthritis
and developing biomaterials for cartilage and bone regeneration; $20,000
pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian
permanent residents or NZ citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Leukaemia Cell Biology

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good hons or masters degree in
science to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in leukaemia cell
biology; the project is to develop a procedure using DotScan antibody
microarrays for surface profiling of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL)
cells from patients; $20,007 pa; up to 3 years.

PhD Scholarships in Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology

Two PhD scholarships are available; the project aims to explore the
nucleation and growth mechanism of vacuum-vapour deposition by observing
the development of metallic nanostructures in the transmission electron
microscope (TEM) at the atomic scale; students with a background in
Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Mathematics and
Computer Science are encouraged to apply; $26,000 pa; or for APA/UPA
scholarship awardees, an $8,000 pa top-up will be considered.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Residential Real Estate

For a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the research
project is to explore several aspects of the Australian Residential Real
Estate Market; applicants should have an H1 or 2A degree in Commerce
Degree Majoring in Finance; applicants must be Australian citizens,
Australian permanent residents or NZ citizens $26,140 pa plus a top-up
of $13,860 pa; up to 3 years

Postgraduate Scholarship in Photobiology

For a suitably qualified candidate in Science or Veterinary Science to
undertake research studies leading to PhD in Photobiology; the project
is to examine the influence of the steroid hormone oestrogen on the
immune response to ultraviolet radiation, and the regulatory effects of
this pathway in controlling skin cancer development; $15,000 pa, up to 1
year; may be renewed for up to a further 2 years if funds are available.

PhD Scholarship in Cancer Cell Invasion and Metastasis

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good hons or higher degree in
science to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in cancer cell
biology.; the project extends our recent discoveries in cancer cell
migration mechanisms to biomolecular, clinical investigations; $24,000
pa; up to 3 years.
