Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) Health and Welfare of Dogs in
Remote Indigenous Communities

For a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the research
project is monitor the health and welfare of dogs in remote Indigenous
communities, undertake epidemiological studies on mortalities,
genotyping infectious disease and to provide evidence to contribute to a
culturally relevant education program in each community; applicants
should be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait descent, have an H 1
or 2 degree in either veterinary science, agricultural science, in
medical science, biosciences or related areas; $25,627 pa; up to 3
years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Vision Research

For a suitably qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading
to a PhD in vision research; the topic is the construction and testing
of a mathematical model of primary visual cortex; applicants should have
a good hons degree in one of the health sciences, science, or
engineering, or an equivalent qualification; $20,007 pa; up to 2 years.

Janet Bryson Memorial PhD Scholarship 2008

This is a start-up scholarship which funds the first year of a full-time
PhD program commencing in 2008, for students undertaking a program of
research into any aspect of obesity at any Australian or New Zealand
University; $20,000 pa; applicants must be Australian or NZ citizens or
permanent residents of Australia or NZ and have completed a degree (or
equivalent) in any discipline with a minimum of second class hons.

Overseas Scholarships

 

Japan MEXT Scholarship - 2008 Future Leader's Program for Regional
Integration and Cooperation in Asia

The objective of the 'Future Leader's Program for Regional Integration
and Cooperation in Asia' is to develop leading researchers who will
conduct research in various fields (such as politics, economics,
society, culture and education) on the themes of regional integration
and cooperation, and can proactively participate in policy making
processes in governments or international organizations; 6 awards
available for Master's students and 4 for PhD students; tenure is 2
years for Master's program, 3 years for PhD program; benefits include
tuition fees, travel expenses, stipend (JPY170,000/month).

Other Scholarships

 

2008 Smithsonian Fellowships

Smithsonian Institution offers fellowships in fields that are actively
pursued by the museums and research organizations of the Institution;
Graduate Student Fellowships allow students to conduct research for
ten-week periods in association with Smithsonian research staff members;
the 2008 stipend is US$5,500; Predoctoral Fellowships allow students to
conduct research for periods of 3 to 12 months; the 2008 stipend is
US$25,000 pa (pro rata) plus allowances.

French-Australian Cotutelle

For this Cotutelle 2007 Call for proposals, the French Embassy will
provide, in total, up to 10 grants-in aid of up to $2,500 each towards
international travel between France and Australia; to be eligible, you
must be a PhD student (of any nationality) enrolled in a Cotutelle
project (under way) between a French and an Australian university, not
have benefited from the French Embassy Cotutelle grant in previous
years, be registered with FEAST-France (as well as your supervisors).

John Carter Brown Library Short-Term Fellowships

John Carter Brown Library Short-Term Fellowships are available for
periods of 2 to 4 months and carry a stipend of US$2,000 per month; open
to Americans and foreign nationals who are engaged in pre- or
post-doctoral, or independent, research; sponsorship of research at the
John Carter Brown Library is reserved exclusively for scholars whose
work is centered on the colonial history of the Americas, North and
South, including all aspects of the European, African, and Native
American involvement.
