<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#333333">Abstract: </span></b><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#333333">It’s important to distinguish between
imprudent acts and impermissible ones. Picking a flower next to a rattlesnake is <em><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">imprudent</span></em>, whereas picking a flower from your neighbor’s garden is <em><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">impermissible</span></em>.
Although these are distinct kinds of judgments, we propose that cultural evolution can lead populations from judgments of imprudence to judgments of impermissibility via pedagogical and cognitive biases amplified by cultural transmission. We find support for
this hypothesis with a set of transmission chain studies. <br>
