Dear Metabolomics Users

Ion mobility is a useful orthogonal method of separation, it is currently available on one of our 6600 instruments and it is likely we will have a second instrument installed later this year.

Mark Hodson at the victor Chang is hosting a seminar on the topic:

What: Enhancing Discovery and Characterization Workflows with Low Drift Field Ion Mobility - Mass Spectrometry
Who: Dr. John C. Fjeldsted, Agilent Distinguished Scientist and Senior Director for Ion Mobility-Mass Spectrometry, USA.
Where: The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, Level 4 Seminar Room
When: Wednesday, 8 August 2018, 2-3pm

Abstract: While the origins of Ion Mobility date back to the early 1900's it is only recently through its hyphenation to high performance time of flight mass spectrometry
that we are beginning to harness its full potential. Through this combination, we achieve simultaneous production of both accurate mass and collision
cross-section data - adding information about molecular conformation. This talk will highlight advancements in Low Field Drift IM-QTOF instrumentation
and informatics in support of discovery, identification and characterization workflows. Examples including applications in lipidomics, novel DIA based
peptide quantification, and intact protein characterization.

Biography: Dr. John C. Fjeldsted, Agilent Distinguished Scientist and Senior Director for Ion Mobility-Mass Spectrometry, USA. John's work in mass spectrometry began in the early 1980's at Brigham Young Univ. where he received his Ph.D. under Prof. Milton Lee. He joined HP/Agilent in 1984 and has held many technical and management R&D positions.
John led the instrument development teams for Agilent's launch of triple quad and quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometers in 2006 followed by subsequent product releases. From 2009 - 2012 John served as GM and then Agilent VP of the LC/MS business. Since 2014 John has led Agilent's ion mobility program and mass spec intellectual property. In 2018 he was honored by receiving the title of Agilent Distinguished Scientist.

Kind regards,

Ben
