 released its final report on university governance. While ATEC will not (initially) have specific responsibilities for research, including HDR studies, we are engaging closely with this work. As we all know, the intrinsic nature of research is weaved into


 the fabric of university teaching and activities and the draft SERD recommendations. Australian STEM needs a healthy, productive and trusted university sector.  <br>

<span style="font-size: 14px;">CSIRO Doug Hilton AO appeared for the final 12 minutes of Senate Estimates this year. He didn’t have much opportunity to answer questions. But as I said on ABC Radio the following morning, the cuts at CSIRO are a symptom of a


 Research and Development sector that’s been chronically underfunded for years. We will continue to advocate our position on behalf of all members when the Senate inquiry into CSIRO job cuts gets underway properly next year (but submissions are open!) that


 we need real, substantial and sustainable science investment in Australia. Science must be seen as an economic investment not a cost that needs to keep being slimmed down to fit an ever-decreasing budget. <br>
